IRA & ABBY OPENS THIS FRIDAY IN NY & LA!

After a wildly successful run on the festival circuit, including Best Feature awards at LA and U.S. Comedy Arts, the romantic comedy IRA & ABBY will be released theatrically in at least ten markets, starting this Friday (9/14) with New York and LA. The film marks Jennifer Westfeldt’s first turn as screenwriter/star since KISSING JESSICA STEIN.

The film, which I helped produce, is a sly and subversive take on marriage, and features an all star ensemble cast, including Chris Messina, Frances Conroy, Judith Light, Robert Klein, Fred Willard, and Jason Alexander.

In the coming weeks, IRA & ABBY will also hit theaters in cities such as San Francisco, Denver, Dallas, Miami, Sarasota, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Chicago (and hopefully many more!) Production Update: TRUE ADOLESCENTS

This week we wrapped production in Seattle on the new comedy TRUE ADOLESCENTS. The coming age tale was written & directed by Craig Johnson and produced by Thomas Woodrow, Emmanuel Michael, Gill Holland, and yours truly. The film stars Mark Duplass (THE PUFFY CHAIR), Bret Loehr, Carr Thompson & Melissa Leo, and will be in post-production for the rest of year. DIRTY COUNTRY, the true story of foul-mouthed country singer Larry Pierce, has proved to be a festival favorite and critical darling. After strong showings at SXSW and Nashville (which were both followed by rioutous live Pierce performances), the film earned strong reviews in Variety and Film Threat.

Upcoming festival appearances include Calgary, Port Townsend, Sidewalk, and Cork (click links for info). We hope to announce plans for the film’s distribution in the next edition of the Lunacy Letter.

The show was created by our great friend and fellow USC alum Ted Iredell, who has hinted that the show will be a riotous comedic take on female friendships in the time honored tradition of Lucy & Ethel and Laverne & Shirley. DIRTY COUNTRY wins SXSW Award

Lunacy’s first foray into the realm of documentary filmmaking is the aptly-named DIRTY COUNTRY - the true story of Larry Pierce. Directed by Found Footage Festival founders Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett, and produced by the Minneapolis based trio of Bill Kruse, Todd Hansen, & Dan Satorius (in addition to yours truly), the film takes a wildly funny look at the role dirty music plays in American culture - past, present, and future.

DIRTY COUNTRY enjoyed its world premiere and took home the Audience Award in the 24-Beats-Per-Second Competition for Best Music Documentary.

IRA & ABBY wins 2007 USCAF Audience Award

KUDOS to IRA & ABBY! The film took home yet another Audience Award for Best Feature at last month’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, CO. Screenwriter/Star Jen Westfeldt also snagged the Best Actress Award!
