Distributor Negotiation
Most indie filmmakers don’t get a huge, catch-all distribution deal. Rather, rights are split up across multiple deals by media, territory, and term. And since these more specific deals are almost always for smaller sums of money, shrewd negotiation of them becomes extremely important.
While your attorney will oversee most of your contractual negotiation and execution, we oftentimes consult with producers to ensure certain key deal points are as filmmaker friendly as possible. Examples include eliminating unnecessary (and usually costly) delivery elements, extending delivery deadlines, reducing term lengths, raising E&O deductibles (thereby lowering costs), estimating union residual payments, and securing favorable terms for ordering promotional copies.
Our end goal is to make all of your distribution deals as win-win as possible. For more information, email stu@pollardfilm.com.
